1 mixing bowl for combining filling ingredients
1 baking dish to bake the cabbage rolls
1 foil to cover dish while baking
- 1 medium head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sour cream for serving
Boil a large pot of water and blanch cabbage leaves until soft; drain and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, dill, and parsley; mix thoroughly.
Lay a cabbage leaf flat, place a spoonful of the filling at one end, then roll tightly, tucking in the sides to seal.
Mix tomato sauce with 1 cup of water and season to taste.
Spread some sauce on the bottom of a baking dish and arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down; pour remaining sauce over them.
Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350°F for 1 hour; remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
