- 2 yellow onions sliced or diced
- 1 tbsp avocado or olive oil
- Sea salt to taste
- 1 pound ground beef shaped into 4 patties about 3/4 inch thick
- 4 slices cheddar cheese omit for dairy-free or Paleo
- 8 leaves green leaf lettuce washed and dried (or 2 small heads iceberg)
- 2 tomatoes sliced (about 10 ounces)
- 4 dill pickles thinly sliced
- 2 tsp yellow mustard divided
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise avocado oil mayo recommended
- 2 tbsp ketchup sugar-free ketchup optional
- 1 tbsp pickle relish or minced dill pickle for sugar-free
- 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar
- Optional: maple syrup or coconut aminos to taste
Heat a large pan over medium heat and add oil.
Add sliced onions and cook over medium to medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until caramelized and browned, about 20 to 30 minutes.
Season the caramelized onions with sea salt and set aside.
Preheat grill or griddle to 350-400°F.
