Description

This Spinach & Cheese Strata is a savory dish perfect for brunch or a light dinner, featuring layers of bread, fresh spinach, and creamy cheese.


Ingredients

4 cups fresh spinach, chopped
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
6 slices of day-old bread, cubed
4 large eggs
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Butter for greasing


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
4. Layer half of the bread cubes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
5. Top with half of the spinach and half of the cheese.
6. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, spinach, and cheese.
7. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top.
8. Allow to sit for at least 15 minutes to soak up the liquid.
9. Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and set.

Notes

This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator overnight before baking. Feel free to substitute other vegetables or cheeses based on your preference.
