Description
If classic mozzarella sticks and Nashville hot chicken had a love child, this would be it. Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks take everything you love about gooey, crispy cheese sticks and crank it up with bold, spicy heat that’ll have your taste buds doing a happy dance. They’re crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and coated with that iconic Nashville-style spice that’s smoky, savory, and just the right amount of fiery. These aren’t your average freezer-aisle mozz sticks—these are next-level party starters, game-day heroes, and snack-time showstoppers. Warning: people will ask for the recipe.
Ingredients
For the Cheese Sticks:
12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut in half for smaller bites)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups seasoned panko breadcrumbs
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp salt
For the Nashville Hot Coating:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
For Dipping (Optional but Necessary):
Ranch or blue cheese dressing
Pickles on the side (trust me)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Cheese
Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half if you want bite-sized pieces.
Place them on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30–60 minutes (this keeps them from melting into puddles).
Step 2: Breading Station
Set up three bowls:
Flour
Beaten eggs
Panko breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, smoked paprika, and salt.
Dip each frozen cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, double dip in egg and breadcrumbs again. Place them back on the tray and freeze again for 15–20 minutes.
Step 3: Fry Time
Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Fry mozzarella sticks in batches for about 1–2 minutes until golden and crispy. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
Drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Make It Nashville Hot
In a bowl, whisk melted butter, cayenne, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt.
Brush or toss the hot mozzarella sticks in the Nashville sauce while they’re still warm.
Step 5: Serve and Get Ready for Compliments
Serve immediately with ranch, blue cheese, and a pile of pickles. Bask in your culinary glory.
Notes
Serve with celery sticks and creamy ranch for the full “hot chicken” experience.
Pair with an ice-cold drink to cool the heat.
Great alongside burgers, fried chicken, or as a stand-alone app.
