  • Author: Tyla
  • Total Time: 4-6 hours 5 minutes

Description

These Loaded Slow-Cooker Grits are ultra-creamy, rich, and packed with flavor. Made with butter, cheese, and a touch of seasoning, they cook low and slow to perfection—perfect for brunch, a Southern-style breakfast, or as a comforting side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups stone-ground grits (not instant)
  • 6 cups chicken broth (or water for a lighter version)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup crumbled cooked bacon (for topping)
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions (for topping)
  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce (optional, for a kick)

Instructions

1. Prep the Slow Cooker:

Grease the inside of your slow cooker with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.

2. Combine Ingredients:

Add grits, chicken broth, heavy cream, butter, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.

3. Cook Low & Slow:

Cover and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent clumping.

4. Add Cheese & Finish:

Once the grits are soft and creamy, stir in cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until fully melted and combined.

5. Load It Up & Serve:

Top with crispy bacon, green onions, and extra cheese. Serve warm with grilled shrimp, sausage, or eggs for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Make it extra creamy by adding an extra ½ cup of heavy cream before serving.
  • Want a smoky flavor? Stir in a few dashes of liquid smoke.
  • For a spicy twist, add diced jalapeños or cayenne pepper.
  • Great for meal prep! Reheat with a splash of milk to restore creaminess
