Description
This is not your average taco Tuesday. These Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Beef Tacos are what happens when smoky-sweet BBQ sauce collides with golden garlic butter, tender beef, and soft tortillas that soak up every last drop of that saucy goodness. We’re talking shredded beef seared in garlic butter, glazed in sticky honey BBQ sauce, then folded into warm tortillas and topped with crunchy slaw, creamy avocado, and a zing of lime. These tacos are rich, sweet, tangy, buttery, and totally over the top — in the best way. If your usual tacos feel a little meh lately, buckle up, because this combo will ruin bland tacos forever.
Ingredients
For the Beef:
2 tbsp olive oil
1.5 lbs beef chuck roast or flank steak (or even ground beef if you’re in a hurry)
Salt + black pepper
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
For the Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Sauce:
3 tbsp butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup BBQ sauce (go smoky or spicy — your call)
3 tbsp honey
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Tacos:
8 small flour or corn tortillas
1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
1 avocado, sliced
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
Chopped cilantro + lime wedges (non-negotiable, trust me)
Optional: jalapeños, sour cream, cotija, pickled onions, etc.
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Beef
Season your beef with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Heat olive oil in a skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high. Sear the beef until browned on both sides, then lower the heat, cover, and cook (add a splash of broth or water if needed) until tender and shreddable — about 1.5 to 2 hours for chuck roast. If using ground beef, brown it up and season as it cooks.
Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Sauce
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low. Add garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the BBQ sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire. Let it bubble for 2–3 minutes, stirring often, until glossy and thick.
Step 3: Sauce the Beef
Shred your beef and return it to the pan. Pour the honey BBQ garlic butter sauce all over the meat and stir to coat. Let it simmer for another few minutes to get everything sticky, rich, and irresistible.
Step 4: Warm the Tortillas
Heat your tortillas in a dry skillet until warm and slightly charred at the edges. Or wrap them in foil and pop them in a low oven while the beef finishes up.
Step 5: Build the Tacos
Pile that glossy BBQ beef into each tortilla. Top with slaw, avocado, red onion, and cilantro. Squeeze a lime over the top. Add jalapeños if you’re feeling bold. Double up on sauce if you’re feeling wild.
Notes
Serve these tacos with charred corn, a simple black bean salad, or crispy sweet potato wedges. For drinks, try a citrusy margarita, cold beer, or iced tea with a splash of lime. For dessert? Maybe a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream or cinnamon-sugar churros.
